CENTRE CITY COUNCIL MEETING

The Centre City Council recently received some good news regarding its financial state of affairs.
In briefly reviewing the audit for the fiscal year ending September 30th 2011, the auditor, Forrest Frost, commended the council on keeping the citys finances in order especially considering the current state of the economy, and he pointed out that the city had attained a net gain in assets in the amount of $202,576.
The Council then voted to approve a payment of $14,950 to Frost for his services.
Following a recommendation by Tommy Loder, Chairman of the Alcohol Review Board, the council voted with one councilman opposed to approve alcohol sales for the All in One Stop, the Bypass Express and Party Time for retail beer off-premises and for retail liquor, wine and beer, off-premises, package store.
Chairman of the City of Centre Industrial Development Board, Kirk Day promoted the use of USB Flash Drives, designed to look like Crappie fish to be used in such places as shows and fairs where a wide-variety of vendors, franchisers and others, may wish to do business with municipalities.
According to Day, those drives which can be loaded with any information the city desires and then distributed to potential businesses, would have many advantages over traditional paper hand-outs, which may be thrown out and need to be re-printed as data becomes out-dated.
After hearing the proposal, the council voted to approve the purchase of the drives.
Also approved was a Blue Cross-Blue Shield Health Insurance Contract that was renewed without any changes, for an additional year.
After discussion among the council concerning an increase in salaries for elected officials the mayors salary was increased from $600 per month to $1200 per month the increase will go into effect for the 2012 2016 term;
One council member was opposed to that increase there will be no increase in salary for council members.
And finally the council voted to take part in WEIS Radios Salute to Black History month for a total of $540 for one month.
The next regular meeting of the Centre City Council will be held Tuesday, February 14th, at 5:00 pm at City Hall.
