Calhoun County deputies are investigating a woman they suspect of stealing a Jacksonville doctors prescription pad and forging his signature in order to purchase prescription medicine from multiple pharmacies all over the county.
Sgt. Jon Garlick said the forged prescriptions have been popping up at local pharmacies since February.
Deputies were first alerted to the crimes - which are considered controlled substance felonies - last week, when Dr. Kewal Verma reported his suspicions that a former employee had stolen his prescription sheets and had since then been writing false prescriptions in his name.
Verma is a family practitioner in Jacksonville.
Garlick said he could not release the suspects name, because the case is still under investigation.
