Alabama Power is warning customers to beware of callers who claim to be representatives of the power company seeking payments.
Power company officials say the scam artists have been calling customers this week. The scam artists demand that the customer provide credit card information over the phone, threatening to immediately cut off service for nonpayment.
An Alabama Power spokesman said the company never asks customers for credit card information over the phone. He said customers who receive such a call should not provide any personal information.
Customers who have a question about their account can call the company`s customer service line at 1-800-245-2244.
