A 5-year-old child died Tuesday after the sport utility vehicle she was riding in collided with
an 18-wheeler.
The accident happened at about 7:15 a.m. on the northbound on-ramp at the
205 Collinsville exit on Interstate 59, according to Collinsville Police Chief Gary Bowen.
He said the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bowen said the driver, Noah Alan Hall, 17 of Collinsville, was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. A Huntsville Hospital spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon Hall was in the surgical intensive care unit.
The childs name was not released. Bowen said Hall and the child were on their way to Fort Payne City schools when the wreck happened. He said the SUV hit the 18 wheeler in the back.
The truck had pulled over to the shoulder of the on-ramp and was not moving at the time.
