CENTRE CITY COUNCIL MEETING
JOEY WEAVER
08-11-2010
This weeks Centre City Council meeting was a relatively short affair.
Cherokee County High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Tripp Curry,
was among those in attendance to request financial assistance from the Council - for the
re-construction of the schools weight room.
It was also brought to the Councils attention that the weight room is shared by all those
on the campus taking part in school athletics.
The total cost of the project is going to be over $26,000.
Mayor Tony Wilkie - stated that he had spoken with Superintendent of Education Brian
Johnson, who said that any contribution from the city would be greatly appreciated.
Mayor Wilkie informed Coach Curry - that the City would indeed take the matter under
advisement, and scheduled a meeting with Curry and other members of the Quarterback
Club to further discuss the issue.
The Mayor further stated that the issue would have to go before the Budget Committee,
to be discussed for the upcoming budget in October.
In other business, Mrs. Kay Davis, who heads up the Cherokee County Family Resource
Center was also present to share with the Council that in addition to the Annual 5K Run
which takes place during the Centre Fall Festival, the route has been extended to include
a 10K Run this year as well.
The mayor also presented the Council with a plan for the City, that if selected, will allow
for the City to receive a solar panel for City Hall, allowing them to take the steps toward
going green
The Centre City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:00
pm at Centre City Hall.
