During this week\\`s meeting of the Centre City Council, Parks and Recreation Department Director Charles Glazner was present to propose the possibility of having a USSSA Baseball Tournament with a tenative schedule Aug,28th and 29th, Sept,11th and 12th, Sept, 25th and 26th, Oct, 9th and 10th.

Mayor Tony Wilkie said that this is simply an innovative way to help strenghten the local economy in the city as the tournaments will bring both fans and players from all parts of the state. The council voted to allowthe tournaments to take place at the Centre Sports Complex.

Glazner also stated that the Centre Swim team, Coached by Kurt Duryea, has qualified for the State Swim Meet which will be held in Valley, Alabama, the team was in need of financial assistance to help cover the expenses and the council agreed to provide $1,600 to cover the cost of hotel rooms.

Centre Fire Chief Kevin Ware was also in attendance to discuss Fire Department Committee recomendations, in an effort to expand the radius for applicants of the fire department, the current policy which states that members must live within 5 miles of the Fire Station was amended to read that members must now live within 12 miles of the department.

Chief Ware also stated that he would like to impliment a physcial agility test which all members must pass in order to be active on the department.

The Centre City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 5pm at Centre City Hall.
