A Ft Payne business-owner and well-known area musician was fatally injured Sunday in a
single-vehicle accident on Airport Road in Dekalb County.
Ft Payne Police Commissioner Ron Ogletree, said that 35 year old Joseph Burt Hood was
pronounced dead at the scene just after 1:00pm by Dekalb County Coroner Tom Wilson.
Hood was driving south on Airport Road, when he lost control of the vehicle merged into
the northbound lane and hit a concrete bridge barrier near Rice Road and then crossed the
road; the vehicle overturned at least twice, ejecting Hood.
Ogletree said that the cause of the wreck is still under investigation, however officers have
ruled out alcohol as a factor.
Hood was co-owner of the Barbecue Place in Ft Payne - he was also a long-time musician,
playing with several different groups in the Ft Payne area.
