PORTION OF I-59 BLOCKED AFTER MAJOR ACCIDENT

According to State Troopers at approximately 6:00 Sunday morning Trooper Mike Owens responded to a tractor trailer accident taking place in the north bound lane I-59 at the 185 mile-marker.
The north bound lanes of the interstate had to be shut down from the 183 to the 188 mile-marker due to the fact that the rig had overturned knocking over some of the concrete barriers in the construction zone.
The Etowah Department of Transportation, Henkel Construction Company and local fire departments were dispatched to the scene to assist with the clean-up and traffic control.
The accident remains under investigation.
