A Fort Payne Police Car driven by Ptl. Ortiz was struck by a vehicle driven by Damion Verdell Stubbs of Centre, Alabama. Ortiz stopped at the stop sign and started across Alabama Ave. The Stubbs vehicle was traveling north on Alabama. Damion Stubbs and female passenger fled the scene on foot into the housing area at 13th street north. A third party in the Stubbs vehicle assisted the Officer who was injured in the accident. The officer was transported to DeKalb Regional for treatment. Stubbs was located and charged with DUI and leaving the scene of the accident.
