The Gadsden Police Department is acquiring 16 stun guns and City Councilman Bill Stewart says their use could avert the need for deadly force. There will be four of the non-lethal weapons assigned to each shift and officers will be trained in their use. The stun guns emit an electrical current that can immobilize an individual. Councilman Robert Avery says they are useful but he hopes no officers will use them too much.
