DESMOND DOSS HONORED

A two mile stretch of Alabama Highway 9 near Piedmont has been named in honor of the late Desmond Doss.
Doss, who passed away in 2006, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in Okinawa during World War II.
A conscientious objector who never carried a weapon, Doss served as a medic and helped save the lives of almost a hundred servicemen.
