NEW IDENTITY THEFT SCAM

Attorney General Troy King is warning food stamp recipients and others, to refrain from giving out any sort of personal information to anyone who may call claiming to be from the Department of Human Resources.
DHR has recently received several reports of elderly people being contacted by someone claiming to be from the Department, asking for their social security numbers, their date of birth, address and income information.
Under no circumstances does DHR call and ask for personal information.
Some of these scam artists have also offered to fill out food stamp applications for the person contacted, claiming they need personal information to finish the process. Again, DHR does not operate in this manner.
If youve been contacted by someone seeking personal information, claiming to be with the Department of Human Resources report the incident to the Cherokee County DHR by calling (256) 927-1440 or to the Attorney Generals Office of Consumer Affairs at 1-800-392-5658..
