HIGH WINDS CREATE PROBLEMS IN ROME

Even after the heavy rains had cleared out, Mother Nature seemed intent on creating problems for the Rome area on Sunday, as the high winds continued.
Floyd County was plagued by power outages caused by downed trees with reports coming from King Bee Circle, Silver Street, Huffaker Road, and Troutman Road among others. In many cases, these trees took power lines down with them, causing at the least flickering of lights in homes around the county and outages in other places. Even with the excess rain, two cases of downed power lines managed to spark small grass fires.
The outages left emergency agencies spread thin, with area police responding to burglar alarms tripped by winds or outages, and the fire department responding to downed lines in addition to fire alarms.
The outages spread Georgia Power Crews thin also, causing delayed responses due to their high volume of calls.
The biggest problem stemmed from the downed tree on Troutman Road, which took a large power transmission line down with it.
