Floyd County residents could get clearance to once again wash their own cars and water their plants if petitions from the city and county are approved by the state.

Steve Hulsey, the Utilities Administrator for Floyd County stated that they have until the 15th of May to file for the exemptions from the Level IV Restrictions, and that the state is expected to make its decision by the middle of June. Most outdoor water use is banned under the current Level IV drought restrictions. There are some commercial exceptions, and the EPD recently approved the filling of swimming pools and limited-landscape watering. As of May 7th, Floyd County had received just over 14 inches of rain on the year, at the same time last year the county had received only 7 inches of rainfall.
