03-24-2008

A large brush fire on Noles Road in Floyd County sent a convoy of emergency vehicles to the scene over the weekend. The Rome Fire Department sent three engine companies along with their brush truck to a fire that had already destroyed a mobile home, a car, and caused around an acre of grass and woods to burn by the time the first engine had arrived on scene. The fire also briefly jumped the road, making its way towards two houses and another wooded area. A family of two adults and numerous children who lived in the home were displaced and the Red Cross was called to assist them. According to Rome Fire Battalion Chief Troy Brock, the fire originated in the area of the mobile home, but the exact cause is unknown and remains under investigation.
